Vivienne Westwood has always said her current husband, Andreas Kronthaler is one of the most creative people she's every met. This coming from the mother punk has got to mean something. Besides, how often do we find ourselves admiring a design duo of a couple? Not as often as we'd like, I'm assuming. Vivienne Westwood's Spring Summer 2017 campaign not only features designs from her husband, but includes some famous faces you may quickly recognize.
Yes, that blond bombshell is Pamela Anderson. Aside from a familiar face, the rest of the shoot screams a fashion-esque Flintstone family flashback. Guys and ladies hugging up on tall stones, trekking rocks in fabulous platforms, and rummaging around abandoned shacks. The design partners based the line on the Mediterranean, but definitely not the modern version.
Andreas Kronthaler expressed his love of area. "It’s this Mediterranean way of life I adore and am inspired by. I love the light. I love women wearing hardly anything- going to the market in their bikinis, lunch with friends- a bowl of spaghetti. Things are simple. But at the same time it makes you think - thousands and thousands of migrants moving across it every day- using the sea as a passage. Is it a coincidence that I’m thinking of Europe? I am not a particularly political person but I want the collection to be part of where I am, where we are."
The collection is quite a mix of cool meets nonsense. You can even see the bending of rolls with a couple of men frolicking in carefully crafted gowns. If there's one thing Vivienne Westwood and Andreas Kronthaler can guarantee it's that nothing is off limits.
