If there's one promise that designer Vivienne Westwood consistently delivers, it's that her collections will be distinguishable among the rest, whether you like them or not. The queen of punk has given us an array of whimsical, costume-like awe with the debut of her Autumn Winter 2017/2018 collection.
While my love for Vivienne Westwood, the mother of punk, runs deep, it's really her creative spirit that keeps us all coming back. Glancing over each runway piece may leave you quizzical. I must admit that some pieces look a little "Harry Potter" while other look a little "Where the Wild Things Are". But why does that necessarily have to be a bad thing? Perhaps for wearable fashion it is, but when you care more about the spirit behind your clothes, perhaps then you'll be drawn to make a purchase.
The collection itself seem something out of a wild imagination. Seams are evermore, dresses are layered and relayered, patterns run wild, and the show goes on. After all, what else would you expect from a designer who often uses her powers of fashion to create political statements on the runway.
If the models with face drawings say nothing to you, then at least take a look at the luxe materials Westwood uses. Silk, wool, cashmere, and tulle is not reserved for just pretty girls in frilly dresses in the world of Westwood. Anything goes, really. Especially for the sake of climate change.
Looking for a brighter light at the end of the tunnel? Perhaps Edun is more to your liking, and equally as fabulous.
